Whore Complex

Men tend to draw a very clear line between the kind of girl a guy can have a little fun with and the marrying kind. Many guys categorize every woman they meet into one of two groups: casual sex partner or bring-home-to-mom potential. For most men, these classifications may change as they get to know a woman, but some men experience a complete inability to see both sexual and relationship promise in the same woman. This is called the Madonna/Whore complex.
Celebrity gossip has recently provided us with two great examples of possible Madonna/Whore complexes: Both Tiger Woods and Jesse James have cheated on their wives – wholesome mother Elin Nordegren and America’s sweetheart Sandra Bullock, respectively – with women of questionable character. Tiger and Jesse may have had difficulty thinking about their wives in a sexual manner and turned to numerous party girls” and models” to meet their needs in the bedroom.
Where does this complex result from and how do it be fixed? AskMen breaks it down for you personally.
Identifying Madonna and the Whore
In the interest of clarity, let’s just establish right from the start that the Madonna we’re discussing is often a symbol of Mary, mom of Jesus (in several people’s minds, the very best example of piousness and purity), not the pop superstar (who clearly belongs on the far side of the spectrum). The Whore identity is pretty self-explanatory and sometimes depicted by music and celebrities alike. Think Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, Megan Fox in, well, anything. Occasionally murderously psychotic, the Whore is nonetheless a fairly exciting woman to be around.
Exactly why is it bad?
A guy with the Madonna/Whore complex has trouble when it comes to marriages or long-term relationships The girl he chooses to invest his life with could have qualities of the Madonna – good, kind, patient, and pure. After they are married, and especially after she bears his children, the person will cease to think about his wife as a sexual being. He’ll hesitate of tarnishing or cheapening their bond with sex. Consequently, many marriages that involve a Madonna/Whore complex find yourself with one – or both – partners having affairs. The person will look for a female who fits the Whore identity and use her to fulfill his sexual needs, as the woman may start calling other men aswell to get what she actually is not getting in the home.
Mommy issues
Sigmund Freud, the famous psychologist, posited a theory about how exactly the Madonna/Whore complex develops in a man’s psyche. A guy with the complex, he said, could have developed with a cold, distant or inattentive mother. His have to capture his mother’s attention and affection as a kid is later projected onto the girl he chooses to marry. He could even search for a woman with similar characteristics to his mother. The parallels he draws between his wife and his mother lead the man to lose all libido for his wife. He’d not think about his mother in a sexual manner, thus, mom of his children becomes non-sexual to him aswell.
